My mom says I started reading before I turned three. I can’t vouch for the truthfulness of this, but I can say that as far back as I can remember, I spent my free afternoons at my parents’ computer, pecking out stories like this one:
“Meanwhile, a robber was at work. He used a crowbar to break the window and he climbed inside. An alarm sounded. He ran away. His disguise fell off while he was running. He was President George Bush!”
As I got older, I was convinced by those older and wiser than me that writing was an irresponsible profession compared to something sensible like software engineering or science. I lasted one semester as a physics major before abandoning it for psychology and eventually coming full circle to linguistics. For two years I lived in Denmark, during which I fell in love with walkable cities, flaky pastries, and responsible governance. And since 2024, I’ve been studying at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, where I spend too little time doing homework and too much time writing stuff like this (now featuring 100% less George Bush).
Professionally, I’ve taught English as a second language, writing, and grammar in one form or another for several years. I enjoy—in no particular order—modern rock music, the London Review, Dr. Pepper, shipping Fire Emblem: Three Houses characters, history, good lighting, Shakespeare plays, karaoke, and hot showers. My friends dared me to put on here that I’m single and ready to mingle.
Lastly, I hope you’ll check out my first novel, The Weight of Sparrow Tears. If you’re a fan of historical fiction, coming-of-age stories, realistic romance, or musical prose, it might be the perfect read for you. Hop on over to the Books page and take a look!
